Another successful
(EASL) Kids Fishing Rodeo
By Wesley L. Johnson:
On Saturday August 4th, one hundred
and fifty- three( 153) kids showed up for the forty-seventh (47
th ) annual “EASL Kids Fishing Rodeo”.
All the kids were excited. Some
who have fished the rodeo for a few years wanted to hurry and register
so they could go claim their favorite fishing hole. Other first
timers, weren’t quit so sure what to do at first, but they were
all ready to fish.
The weather was great. By 7:00
am the kids were registered and crickets given to those who needed
them. The start horn was blown and the competition was on (friendly
competition).
While walking around the lake and
passing out donuts I saw a few old friends teaching their kids how
to and how not to fish. I also saw some new faces. Everyone seemed
to be having a great time. Especially the kids I witnessed trying
to catch a turtle and when they did they even gave it a name! What
really mattered was that they were enjoying one of the best past
times youngsters and adults can enjoy, “Fishing”.
At 9:00 am the horn blew for everyone
to stop fishing and bring their catch to be counted and weighed.
The lines quickly formed and the kids were all looking in each other’s
buckets to see what the other caught. Thanks to the fast “Counting
& Weighing Crew’s” all the fish were counted & weighed in
a timely fashion. Thanks to Vince Diez and Vince Jr., Torrey Hayden
and Wesley Johnson for volunteering to be the weigh masters.

On a more personal note, this was
the first year for Nathon Williams and I to chair this event. We

Hebert, Deborah and Gabrielle Johnson, and Tyson and Tracy Lee.
